I actually feel established enough in my fandoms now and with enough fandom friends that I feel comfortable talking about this so:

~long ago and far away

(and by that I mean last June)

I was very new to writing in fandom and being in fandom in general and I went under another pseud of which I will not reveal, both because it does not exist anymore and because if you really really feel like it you can trawl through the archives of the Sherlock Rant Meme and find my x-ed out username, it's not that hard, I would assume.

Anyway, I was super bored with my summer job and I didn't have anything going on in my hometown or anyone to hang out with and so I started casually writing for the Sherlock Kink Meme un-anon (like a fucking idiot). I would write about one short, unpolished fill every night, and then post them to the meme, my journal, and my AO3 account (all of which have been purged). I also used to talk about my own fic on the rant meme like many other people did, except for unlike other people I was very clearly traceable, even as an anon.

So anyway one time I was talking about my fill in a thread or something and someone asked about it and I thought I had provided a link but I had actually not but I thought I had and presented it like I had and so the person was like "Haha funny. Not" and I was an idiot and was like "You're rude for just saying that mean thing anon w/o constructive criticism" or something and then the internet exploded for like two days about all of the reasons why I suck, some of which included about how I was apparently a 'prompt hijacker' and also someone was disappointed about a mental illness fic I wrote or something based on my own experience with mental illness but it wasn't accurate enough or something I guess.

Anyway I cut all of my ties to all of my accounts and started anew, because it was really bad :P I guess sometimes you have to learn the rules of the internet the hard way. I have a decent amount of friends under this username now, so it all worked out in the end :)

I actually had this hunch about you, and I was right? No bigs though if I am. If you are, you admittedly made me want to bang my head on the keyboard because second-hand embarrassment and also because it irked me that folk seemed stupidly willing to bait you.

I never linked a wine recipe :/ Mostly because I don't know any, but also because before I had this pseud I commented on here only a handful of times on my old account and never in GC. I only even found this comm last April and I lurked for a good while. But I'm glad that you enjoyed the one you got from some other person <3

Since the rant meme got it's own journal, rather than being modded on the fic meme, I like to think the accidental stumbling of well-meaning newbies dropped a bunch.

heck, who wouldn't want multiple fills what is wrong with these people

also, major :/ at the mental illness part (aimed at them, not you)

good on you for cutting ties, that sounds downright toxic

prompt hijacking isn't about fills. it's when a person comments on the prompt and adds their own ideas (i.e., yeah, that sounds great, but this would be even better!")

i can see why the hijacker would do it, but also why it would be bad form

For what it's worth, I liked that mental illness fic, thought it was quite realistic, and still have it saved to my hard drive.

Wow. You actually made my morning. That's more than what I have of my own stuff, I purged literally everything off of my journals and AO3 and even my own word documents because I was so embarrassed so I'm glad that me writing it was worth it to at least one person and I'm not a complete failure.
