I avoid controversy whenever I can which means I almost never post on potentially controversial subjects.

Honest question for those who started accidental wank: Did you have any idea it would erupt? Did part of you send out warning signals - "no no don't do it"?

I mean, there are "safe" topics, "unsafe" topics, and those that fall in between. Did you know you were potentially crossing that line into "unsafe"?

I'm wording this badly and I'm sorry. I'm really not trolling - I'm trying to understand the thought-processes that go into wank-storms. Does that make any sense?

I don't believe there should be any safe or unsafe topics, especially on the internet where all we have are words to express ourselves. Probably why I tend to cause wank. I think we should talk about things.

I expected dissent with my opinion, but I had no idea it would be as vehement as it was. In hindsight, the way I worded my point wasn't the best, but I never anticipated that the subject would rouse as much anger as it did.

I know that there are some topics that attract wank, but I don't want to avoid them, since it is possible to have a discussion over any subject. Sometimes you attract people who can't talk about the subject objectively and take every dissenting opinion as a personal insult, but I'd rather take that risk.

For me, I have no warning signals. Because of this, I tend to avoid most controversial discussion topics and only offer my opinion if it's something I feel strongly about.

In my case, I thought we were just having a discussion when suddenly!wank! So I was taken aback considering I do sometimes troll and this wasn't something I had thought of as wank fodder
