Everyone has one? (potential TMI)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard this said a couple places (unsurprisingly, closely related to porn) - that when it comes to kinks, "everyone has one," or more than one.

Do you think this is true?

For bonus points - what's yours?

(To avoid semantics: Kinky practices go beyond what are considered conventional sexual practices as a means of heightening the intimacy between sexual partners. Thank you, Wikipedia.)

I wouldn't surprise me if it was. But it seems like something that you might not even notice. I'm still only semi-aware of my kinks-
For example I like androgynous people or butch women but it took me years to figure out because there's just not a whole lot of variety in gender presentations in the media.

The rest of my kinks are somewhat socially unacceptable. :'(

I don't know, even with the definition you provided I think it still depends on what you mean.

I have mental kinks -- things I like to read about or watch in porn -- that I'd never want to do in real life; and I have kinks like the anon above me mentioned, being attracted to certain physical types of people (which doesn't really fit that definition, I don't think)... But when it comes to an interest in real life sexual acts, I actually can't think of anything I'd be interested in that doesn't fall under the umbrella of "conventional."

I'm not sure if it applies to everybody... there are lots of people who are fine with "vanilla sex"

My kink would be pegging, but without a sub/dom component (something I hate about most porn videos...)

I agree, even porn that caters to my kinks still doesn't suit my tastes. I love dom/sub and bondage but when I find it it just feels wrong somehow- like it's faking it but it isn't actual female dominance? Or they just waaay-overdo it.
Or, like you said, they take something and put powerplay into it that didn't need it.

Well I probably have enough to average out people who don't so it's likely technically true? ;)

This. When I'm asked by a partner I usually go, "I'll let you know if I'm not interested. Until then, just assume I am."

I imagine it's true, but that many people are perfectly satisfied not exploring them.

I like spanking (and I was never spanked as a kid)

I don't know. I think a lot of people aren't interested in seeing whether or not they do have one, and that's fine. If they explored, maybe they would, but if they don't want to whatever.

I'm rather fond of bondage and knifeplay myself, though.

I bet most people do, but for some they are still relatively vanilla or very common and therefore those people don't think of them as kinks because they think kinky sex always has to involve bondage gear or something. Also, I bet a lot of people have kinks they don't know they have because it's not until an idea occurs to you that you'll realize you find it hot. If nothing has happened to spark the idea, then that hotness goes unrealized.

Hmmm. In practice, I'm not sure I really have any? I guess I have a bit of a size thing, and I like anal, but those both seem pretty tame, at least to me. As far as reading about/watching...incest (does that count as a kink?), sometimes mpreg if I'm in a certain mood, and...I think that's about it, really. I think overall I'm fairly boring.
