I am freaked out, FS!
(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 08:31 am (UTC)(link)I was sitting at the living room table messing around online, and suddenly the wi-fi went out. Not that odd, but then like two seconds later I heard beeping and some sort of noise that I thought was the heat kicking on. I didn't think much of the beeping because my mom had told me a couple weeks ago that something makes a beeping noise somewhere in the house at random times and they haven't been able to figure it out. It kept on, though, so I got up to investigate. I walked over near the staircase to the basement, and the beeping got louder, so I reluctantly went downstairs to check it out. The washing machine had somehow turned itself on, was full of water, and was beeping loudly. I didn't want to open it because it would flood the laundry room so I just turned it off, at that point afraid someone was in the house and had for whatever reason turned it on.
Forgetting all the horror movies I've ever seen, I went to explore the rest of the basement. I didn't find anyone, but I felt seriously creeped out (I've been afraid of the basement since I was a kid for some inexplicable reason; it's finished and carpeted and brightly lit so it's not like it's some scary, dark, dungeon-like place or something) and came back upstairs and shut the door to the basement.
Decided to call my mom (my parents are on the west coast and I'm on the east so it was only 11:30 there at the time and I figured there was a chance they were still up) for some reason (I guess just to inform her that there's a ghost in their house? IDK) and my phone had turned itself off. I got it turned back on and called my mom, who told me how to drain the washer, and talked to her for awhile about how their trip was going then finally hung up so they could go to bed.
After that I came back out to the dining room and closed the shade (there's a window right next to the table I'm sitting at and the idea of an open window and dark backyard where I can't see anything but someone could be watching me freaked me out) and since then I've heard several weird noises. I went upstairs to check out one of them to see if it was the cat, but she wasn't up there, and while I was upstairs, I heard a noise from the computer downstairs even though I didn't have anything open that would make noise. I finally found the cat in the TV room off the dining room but she was sitting completely still in the middle of the room and I'm pretty sure she wasn't the cause of the noises.
I also housesat here last fall and (while I was watching the Home Invasion episode of American Horror Story of all things) a bunch of teenagers attempted to break in. D:
The noises have calmed down somewhat while I was been typing this, but they're still there and...yeah. I'm freaked out. I'm half tempted to get the hell out of this creepy house and drive home even though it's the middle of the night.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-20 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)Is your parent's house old? Does it have bad wiring? Things like this can explain a lot of your issues. Houses that are old, or poorly framed, make noises because they are settling. Bad wiring can cause surges, which can set off electrical devices (It often happened to my TV in a very old apartment building I lived in in MA)
As for your phone turning off, is it a cellphone? They are notorious for having bad charges. My Verizon lucid shuts off all the time, or loses its charge in a matter of days/hours. It's pretty bad.
