I don't mind people going through the movies in detail and examining the changes, and even voicing their like or dislike of it, as long as it doesn't include an implication of "If you don't think this is a huge traversty then you're an idiot!" coming through.

I try to keep away from critics of the movies because I'm pretty much an unabashed squeeing fangirl, though I love anyone who can find a good way of bringing up backstory like Thranduil's Doriath background in fanfic and explore it in detail (there's a start to a Legolas/Gimli time travel fic on the kink meme where Legolas tells Thorin's company the basics of that - I loved seeing that).

Oh, and I will also note that back when I finally got around to reading The Hobbit (after owning a copy for years I only read it after the LotR movies came out) I was totally unimpressed with the Elvenking (Thranduil), even though by that point I'd long since read the Silm so I knew the Doriath backstory.

The Hobbit movie just compounds my apathy towards Thranduil, since, as stated before, I'm a squeeing fangirl and I've taken to the OME HOT DWARVES!!! just as enthusiastically as other squeeing fangirls have.

Especially Thorin.
