And he isn't universally hated, but I've seen a good deal of Kaidan Alenko hate. HE WAS MY FIRST (Mass Effect) LOVE, AND YOU'LL NEVER PART US.

I always see hatred for Kaidan as well :( Don't get me wrong, I love Garrus and co., but Kaidan has a special place in my heart. I ship him and my femShep so hard.

When she chucks him over her shoulder in ME1 I always giggle. Also the cafe scene <3 All their scenes together, really.

Yea, me too. Garrus is one of my favorite ME characters but most of my Shepard's feel more like besties with him than lovers, and although I love Thane and Liara as love interests too (and a lot, at that), Kaidan will always be special to me. He's definitely my type, too. (Physically and personality wise.)

I totally get that. My main Shepard is besties with him and Jacob (and everyone, really, haha). I just love all the jokes between them like the cut-scene with them shooting stuff on the Citadel (and Jacob and Shepards' bro hugs). I was torn when I found out Garrus would be romanacablein ME2, as he's amazing, but I decided my Shepard had to be true to Kaidan, haha.

Thane's romance story I haven't done yet, because just being friends with him and finishing his storyline kills me. I don't think I'd be able to make it through without major weeping as lovers. Liara is great and one of my femShep's is romancing her. I like that she has so much continuity between all the games.

All the cast is amazing in ME. I wish you could date everybody at once XD My Shepard was always flirting with the whole crew because they are all so awesome.

You can always romance Garrus with a different character! I did in ME2, but after completing ME3 with my main Shep I didn't feel like going back and doing the same with my other ones. I probably will someday.

But I agree that the whole cast is amazing. I do have a few favorite characters, but tbh I love the majority of them equally. They're all so lovable in their own ways, and Shepard has interesting, beautiful relationships with all of them.

I saw what you said below about the Jacob romance, and I completely agree. Haha, it's awful, so I stay far away from that, but he is a good friend to Shep. Also, Wrex. God, I love Wrex...

As for dating them all, I doubt that would ever happen because that sounds complicated and hard to implement, but maybe one day!

Shepard really does have beautiful relationships with them all. That's why I love the games so much.

Jacob is a great friend to Shepard, but Jesus take the wheel, just thinking about his romance makes a vessel pop, haha. Wrex is a beautiful beautiful Krogan. His attitude can't be tamed <3

Jacob's romance was really, really bad, yes. I guess the writers wanted to show that sometimes things don't work out like you expect, and that not all romances are meant to be, but it makes me feel bad for people who did romance him.

Personally I find him hot as hell, or did until I saw his romance scene in ME2. I was planning on romancing him in the future but saw that and went, "Nope".

You mean you didn't like "but the priiiiiize?" I am shocked and outraged, haha. His romance scene is fantastic in the way that it's so horrible it's great.

The remixes for that give me life.

One of my friends brings up "but the prize" out of the blue sometimes, in the hopes of traumatizing me. His face in that scene...and well, the ENTIRE scene, was rather unfortunate. Oh, Jacob...

The remixes pretty much sum up what I love about fandom. This one I hadn't heard, and was a lesser person for it. Holy crap this is disturbingly hilarious. I need to pass it along now, thanks! XD

I can't really like him, because I find it pretty unforgivable his reaction at Horizon. And (I'm sorry!) Kaidan fans get SO incensed if you don't buy their excuses. I don't think his reaction was evil, but I do think that he really didn't apologize as well as he should have. It was sort of poor writing, but poor writing is canon too, and Kaidan's character suffered for it.

But I always feel something warm when I talk to him in ME1. There's something very natural about that romance.

Mmm. I get that. I know a lot of people have problems with his reaction. I wrote fic to help cover the pain, haha. I do think his letter to Shepard does smooth somethings over a bit and shows more of his inner-workings and feelings about the incident.

Plus it's war and tensions are high, so I give Kaidan some slack. Also in ME3 he seems to really regret his actions and really wants to be back with Shepard. But I can see why people don't like his romance option.

The only romance option I didn't care for was Jacob, because his romance ending made me rage, haha.

Hey, if you don't like him, you don't like him.

As far as Horizon goes, yea, he made a mistake and he was upset and too quick to jump to conclusions. I totally agree, actually. But I do understand his confusion and anger to some extent, because Shepard definitely had free time to talk to the crew on the Normandy (as well as some of his or her old crew off the Normandy), but didn't contact Kaidan. So...yea, not wholly listening to Shepard and trusting that Shepard had a plan and could handle his/herself was dumb, but he did apologize for it in both ME2 and ME3, and I find that pretty forgivable; he's only human.

Obviously you don't have to agree, but that's my take on it.
