how do I choose a binder?

(Anonymous) 2013-01-26 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
ESL, uncertain genderqueer here. Please bear with my awkwardness?

I'm 160 centimetres short tall, weight 53 kilograms, with C-cup breasts.
A friend let me try their "model 1700" from T-Kingdom.com, Size M. It's my size and this model is supposed to do great for bindng even big breasts and yet... it doesn't fit. I overflow at the sides and my chest still sports a rather awkward-looking bump.

So... would another model work better, should I squeeze myself in a Size S instead, or what?

Here's a list of binders with reviews: http://chestbinders.wordpress.com/tag/size-c/

Other methods for binding here: http://www.ftmguide.org/binding.html

I'd advise you to try another model, squeezing yourself too much could result in trouble breathing properly and severe back pain, especially if you wear your binder for long periods of time.

Good luck, anon!

Thank you!

Try a different model if you can, or combine bras/compression shirts/tight t-shirts with the binder (over or under, whatever works best), and wear baggier shirts over it. Large chests can be a pain to bind, but the last thing you want to do is get something that's too small - you risk injury to yourself doing that.

Good luck! Binding can be really amazing once you can get something working c:

I own a T-Kingdom size M and S and even in the S I still "overflow" at the sides a little, and I'm an A cup... I usually wear them both (the S on top) and it works fine for me. The sizing chart actually said I need an M because of my weight?! But I'm really tiny and the M is too big.

Come to think, I'm small and have a very narrow chest (most of my weight comes from below the waist.) In female t-shirt size, I'm more a S than a M.

Thanks for the input; I think I'll have to put more thought in choosing the size and model, then.

yeah, spilling out the sides is a common problem with certain models (also, I've heard t-kingdom's binders fit some body types better than others). another place to find binder reviews is binders101.tumblr.com. they can't tell you exactly which one to get, but it might help you understand the differences between binders from different makers.
