The Doctor/River thing especially irks me since I really, really, really, really liked them in season 4 and 5, when she was just an awesome mad lady who'd pop out of nowhere and cheerfully deflate his self-importance by trolling the fuck out of him and vanish again while never being mystified by him because she knew all about him already.

I know we already got into a long conversation about all of this about a month ago, but YES, YES. ALL OF THIS.

We did? I don't remember that conversation but I'm glad someone else sees it kind of the same as me (consensus is painfully rare in Who fandom...)

Well it wasn't exactly about River, but we did go over our mutual frustration at the super angst of the 2009 specials when they were coming out, our liking of season 5, and then the crushing disappoint of season 6.

Oooooohhhhh yes, that we did :)

Speaking of which, I had the good fortune of mainlining all the 2009 specials in the space of a single day, a month or so after The End of Time came out, and mainlining all of season 6 in the space of about a week, and thank god because I'm not sure my adoration of both Ten and Eleven would have remained so unshaken if I had to watch that shit unfold in real time.
