But at the end these people turn out to be capable of listening to reason and being nice guys after a lovely lecture about brotherhood and blah blah blah, not to mention they all seemed to hold a lot of respect for the queen's say in the matter and she made no attempt to speak up for her daughter's wishes even after she won her own hand fair and fucking square. You are literally implying that if two or more people decide to fight and kill each other because they were promised an unwilling wife and didn't get it, that that's the potential wife's fault. Congratulations on having that attitude.

It is kind of her fault. This is a fundamental deal for their government--presumably to insure that the king cannot gain too much power over all of the other clans. It's part of the law and customs. The king backing out and breaking these things is a big deal. This isn't just "getting the unwilling wife", this is succession and the future of their kingdom.

I promised my neighbor that I would give them a black slave. The black slave ran away, and now my neighbor wants to kill me. It's totally the black slave's fault.
