Eh, they're harmless enough. I mean, they're way above the shota and noncon fans in that they don't have to insist that their kink is purely hypothetical-imaginary and not something they'd ever act on in real life, for starters. Hell, I'd put them above RPF, even. I mean, yeah, it's kind of weird, but that's the internet for you - and it's easy enough to avoid.

I hate to burst your bubble, but there is a disturbingly significant portion of Furries that totally do act on it in real life. And they don't always get your permission before they try to rope you into it.

I'd go into more detail, but that would lead back to a very bad personal experience and I don't feel like triggering myself right now.

I don't mean to tread on something that's triggering for you and if you're not up for replying I completely understand, but do think that could just be the vocal minority there?

Possibly. Still one too many for me. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely wary of anyone who is more than casually into furry stuff.

No. I just had really bad taste in friends when I still went to conventions, and I paid for it.

Well, I wouldn't say that's a problem with furries so much as it is a problem with people who don't understand or respect boundaries. I mean, obviously I don't know what happened, but if you're talking about something like pressure to do something sexual, that'd be wrong, regardless of whether the person wanted to wear ears and a tail while doing it.

visp's whole point was that furries *do* act on it in real life. They wear their fur outfits at their furry-places and hang out with each other as their fursonas. Lolicon and noncon/kidfuckfic people are always all high and mighty about how they would "NEEEEEVVVVAAAAR look at a real child inappropriately, so this fanart of Falcor forcing himself of Atreyu is totally normal and healthy. Well, if you took it to mean "all furries are decent people who would never sexually harass or assault another person," I apologize, I didn't mean that, and I didn't mean to invalidate anyone's experience. Obviously, some of them are going to be predatory assholes that should never be trusted, but that's because furries are people, and the previous statement applies to all subgroups of the human race.

Difficult as it may be to believe, most shota fans are not pedophiles. And overwhelmingly, the ones who aren't are just as horrified and scared of rl pedophilia as most people. Dude, when I was at a furry con with a friend of mine last year, four different people advertised their "sexy" dogs to me throughout the weekend. Pretty sure that wouldn't have happened at a non-furry con as that would have been considered deviant behaviour.

There are zoophiles and pedophiles in the Furry community but they're hidden because they give the Furry community a bad name. Some have been arrested and convicted though. Remember that asshole who wanted to marry his horse? He used to attend Furry conventions.

And don't even get me started about the Furry fetishists who are obsessed with fucking Fifi La Fume or the Baloo walkaround mascot. Most of the Bronies are fascinated by "sweet pony ass." A lot of Furries ended up in MLP fandom because the show focuses on young girls and ponies. :(

You can be a furry and a pedo, or a furry and a bestiality enthusiast, but you can also be a furry and a Doctor Who fan. They're all separate things.

I'm sure there are plenty of furries who like MLP because it has animals in it, and not because of any sexual attraction to said animals.

I have no doubt that bestiality and zoophilia are present in the furry fandom and probably at significantly higher proportions than in the population at large. But they don't characterize the entire group.

All that said, people who actually are into bestiality can gtfo. I don't care if the internet "tolerates furries". I would care if the internet "tolerated bestiality" but I don't think it does, or will any time soon.
