That, and the fact that the guy looks like he's been hit in the face with a stick a few too many times.

Sorry not everyone cares about the old, ugly guys.

Edith's no looker, either, let's be honest.

Know many people who've been hit with sticks, do you?

I'd say "never change, ugly troll," but I do wish your shtick varied.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-31 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
Every time I see these comments I picture you with a really puggish nose and bulgy eyes and a kind of round heart shaped face with a slightly-too-large forehead that gets really shiny regardless of whether or not you've been doing a lot of excercise.

I picture you with the kind of face that was only en vogue for a short period of time, like you got a terrible early 90's rhinoplasty and therefore think you "could have been a model" when really that was never in the cards. So now, because your own looks were ever lacking, you go around judging everyone else's assuming they are like you, and have nothing else to fall back on.

I just thought you should know.

He's pretty adorable for an old guy, actually.

They have their share of fans.

But, imo, the extra dialogue in the US airing clarified that Edith didn't really love ANTHONY. She loved the idea of having a purpose in her life. She'd feel useful as Anthony's wife and that was what she was really in love with- not Anthony himself.

I don't know the show, but -- like an age gap has ever stopped fandom before.

I've seen very little of them (I don't watch the show), but I thought they were adorable.

OMG YES. I felt sooo sad for poor Lady Edith! I still think he's probably the love of her life, and she'll never find anyone else. :(

I cared about this ship. I was so sad when he left her. :(

However I am excited for the potential of Awesome Liberated Cohabiting Edith for season 4.

It wasn't the age gap for me, it was the fact he was forever blowing hot and cold in the face of Edith's blatantly obvious regard. I get why but, ugh, I just wanted him to step up to the mark all the damn time.

Hopefully unsuitable beau mark II will not leave her so heartbroken...

I loved them as a couple, too - and it wasn't like he was bedridden - he didn't have the use of one arm! For heaven's sake.

IA I thought they were cute. I'm not finished with S3 yet though so I don't know how they end up.

DAMMIT I HAVE HAIR ENVY NOW

ARGHBLARGHAH~

(Anonymous) 2013-01-31 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I wasn't a huge fan of the couple, but it had nothing to do with the age gap (I actually like a fair amount of age gap couples). Their whole relationship struck me as forced and artificial. She was desperate to not be what everyone expected of her-- an old spinster-- and he was a meek man who didn't want to hurt anyone. Their scenes together were rife with secondhand embarrassment for me. So... I feel bad for both of them, I like each of them well enough individually, I'm into age gaps, and I still didn't like them as a couple. I have a feeling a lot of other people agree with me on the oddness of their relationship too.

To be honest, I kinda thought the age gap was the only interesting thing about them as a couple

(spoiler alert: I like Edith much better after the wedding-that-wasn't. It was sad but she bounced back in fantastic style)

(Anonymous) 2013-01-31 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I actually am interested in it because of the age gap. If he were her age I don't think I'd care about her romance at all.

Fandom's full of ships with age differences. It's probably just that there's not enough chemistry between them to get shippers interested.

I think they make a great couple too, but I don't get the age gap thing, he's in his mid 50s and she looks like she's pushing 40, so why the big deal. Plus she's paid for her past mistakes and why the hell can't she be happy now???? At least in a fic!

I'm still weirdly fond of her and the farmer dude, despite the fact I normally hate homewrecking relationships. This guy kind of creeps me out as well. (...I really need to learn some character names other than the main cast.)

[personal profile] wauwy 2013-01-31 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
There's probably the fact that he was an INCREDIBLE UTTER DOUCHEBAG TO HER (in a totally OOC way, there's no way a man in his position would renege on his word like that at that time)

idk why we were supposed to feel like it was so tragic that she had a crush on him? She'd be happy with him, and she'd be a hot piece of ass for him for a decade or two until he died. Then she'd be a young widow with a nice pension who could do whatever the fuck she wanted and life would be awesome for her. It happened all the time in ~society~ in the past.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-31 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh POOR EDITH. I was so upset for her.

Although "spinsters still have to get up for breakfast" was a great line.
