I have to write a three-page(!) summary of Hegel's master-slave dialectic. I can barely hit three pages with an opinion paper, let alone an objective summary. This semester is going to suck.

what? you 1) are assigned things by page number and not word count and 2) are worried about hitting three pages? how old are you?

Not OP, but it's not rare for me to get an assignment for page number rather than word count. Actually it's more often page number.

OP, 3 pages is not a lot. You can totally do that!

DA

1. Different teachers want different things. Most of the teacher's I've had meant 'I want at least three full pages' when they assigned three pages, which if you go by what the 'general' word count attached to a page is, usually comes out to about 2,250 words roughly, though it could also be more or less depending on the specifications for font. Some people have a lot of trouble writing that much.

2.I can't speak for the OP, but personally? I haven't written a paper in close to 10 years. So, if I were to go back to school? Yes, a three page paper would be worrisome to me. Any paper would because I simply haven't done it in so long and I'm something of a perfectionist. So yes, they could be worried for perfectly legit reasons.

I'm guessing high school. Writing classes in college (in my experience) tend to go "okay, now I want x number of words, Times New Roman, Font 12, with one-inch margins, double spaced, and no Oxford commas."

...the assignment itself doesn't sound out of line for college, but the lack of specifics is strange. Maybe an AP high school course.

I like that you used an Oxford comma in that example. ;D
