I hate on the bad SJWs as much as anyone but blocking every single mention of a social justice topic? Really?

Tumblr is where I go to fandom, and fandom is my chill space. I really don't need all the drama that tends to circulate around SJ buzzwords.

Pretty much. I'd tumblr saviour you too, because all I really want to do is look at gifs of Tom Hiddleston.

+1 for this cool-headed reaction to bad trolling, and for somehow shoehorning in Hiddleston. I have no idea how people pull this off.

I mean this kind of? But people not wanting to see it in their Tumblr space does *not* mean that they don't care. Sometimes people want to just escape.

I think you're expecting too much of most people.

There are people who just want to see fanart and stuff. That's fine, I get it. But ANY mention of racism? What if something actually racist comes up? How do you even know if someone's being an sjw if you can't see the content?

I think part of it is getting away from SJW, and part of it is just getting away from stressful issues as a whole. For example, I really, REALLY care about sexism and I read sexist things and rant about them and talk about it, but if I was in a really crappy mood I'd rather just avoid the topic for a while. Seeing sexist people be frustratingly sexist just sets me on edge.

Oh, okay. I get that. I'm not sure how you'd filter it out, though. I'm not dissing the blocking of certain tumblr people.

Personally I prefer to discuss things like in 'real life' because that's where basic civility is most prevalent, and I don't get told to "go die" for not understanding something, making a mistake or having a different opinion.

I like my real world conversation with more logic and less radicalist attitude behind it.

You really think the sole point of SJ is to yell at people? Wow. I don't like SJ but even I think that's pretty fucking dumb.

I tend to separate the SJ Allies as the genuine people and the Warriors as the crazies. Because going to war is never going to be the answer to solving problems because it's the wrong approach and people who take that aggressive approach usually end up just fighting people.

And fighting/attacking people is what caused a lot of our problems. We need to fight the concepts. not the groups we blame for the concepts. Prejudice is a human trait, it isn't confined to one particular group that we can scapegoat for it.

Tumblr's bigger than an internet fanspace, though. I'm not talking about avoiding social justice issues on MSPA forums or the like.

Again, I clarified that if you're seriously just in it to look at pictures, I don't have an issue. It bugs me when you're filtering out any reference to racism or sexism when the person referring to such things might not be an sjw, though. That isn't a real discussion space at all.

I agree. I mean, it's one thing if your fandoms are unusually wanky and people often flip out over trivial misunderstandings...but I think I'd honestly side eye anyone who blocked all SJ terms.

Reminds me of people who willfully ignore blatant racism and sexism while insisting that it's not that much of a modern issue anymore ("Lalala! Since it doesn't effect me as much, I'll ignore it to make it seem like these issues don't exist. I don't have to feel guilty about not actually caring that much!").

Personally, I've done pretty much the same thing because, at least when I was on tumblr, it wasn't rational discussion I saw. It was dog piling and attacks, and that's not what I want out of fandom.

Also blocking sj terms in fandom spaces =/= not caring. Like I mentioned, I've blocked have them there - but in RL? I'm one of the people who *starts* those discussions and goes out of my way to hear it. So it's a little presumptuous of you to assume that someone's fandom habits have to indicate what they're overall attitude is.

Fandom is a place to relax. Not seek out things that will make you angry. There have been entire sites I considered blocking because I just spent so much time getting angry and bitching and ranting. Then one day I woke up and realized it was stopping me from doing productive things.

tumblr =/= the world

when you look at your dash and all you see is anger, anger and more anger, well no thanks. Beside the fact that I have huge problems with anger, I don't want to spend hours dealing with other people's yelling and screaming. I have enough of that IRL.
