Truth is, you'll never know if it's a right thing for you. I mean, there's a lot of people who liked it (even more the LoM, which I, personally, find crazy), but the others never really got into A2A and/or never accepted it as a part of LoM universe.
Being of a second group, I'm tempted to say you're rightly avoiding it, but... well, objectively speaking, the sequel's not a bad show. The style's different, and it fucks up canon beyond any reason. They sort of, not to spoil anything, played with the Sam-not-being-there thing, and it really did fuck up massive chunks of canon.
But yeah, try an episode or two. If you don't like it, you can always delete it and pretend it doesn't exist.

It doesn't fuck up LoM canon, it builds on canon. Certainly there are a couple of things that become plotholes (happens with everything) in LoM but that's only the fault of the writers who didn't always have all the answers, just a vague idea of where they wanted to take A2A.

With that said, I agree it's not for everybody, as it's very much a different show in terms of tone and in some ways, in terms of characterization. I was just forced to become its biggest defender because of all the misogynist fuckwits that surfaced right after it came out.

I'd say they were 'building on' canon, if back in 2006 the writers were thinking, "right. There's a rooftop scene, but in several years This and This will happen, and That's what really is going on here."
They clearly didn't. They didn't even plan to make A2A at first. In fact, if you try to apply A2A canon it terms of who the characters are, their role in general universe (like, you know, Nelson) to LoM, it just becomes confusing. Not to mention, I don't find that giving answers to something that's not meant to be answered is a good idea per se, especially if your answers are radical. And A2A answers are VERY radical.

I get what you're saying, the ending of A2A expands the universe of it's predecessor and changes the perspective on a lot of things happening in it. I just don't believe it's doing so in a way that complements LoM.

(There's also a small matter of the very-very last scene which underlines the significance of BOTH main protagonists, whichever's your favorite, and pisses me, personally, off.)

Oh, and, there was a misogynistic movement in fandom?! Really? Wow, that's... just wow.
