lol how you could forget the super-long description of the savage Antonius with his perfect lips, hair, eyebrows, cheekbones, etc. and purty eyes that break grisettes' hearts blah blah blah. I wouldn't be surprised if Hugo needed a 'bathroom break' when he'd finished writing all that.

Oh yeah.

Comparisons between Enjolras - and Enjolras's relationship with Grantaire - and famous gay Ancient Greeks is totally a thing (Antinous/Hadrian, Aristogeiton/Harmodius, Achilles/Patroclus, Nisus/Euryalus, Alexander/Hephaestion, and Orestes/Pylades). (There's also Dubreuil/Pechméja, but that was more contemporary.) Getting homoerotic subtext past the radar: you're doing it right, Hugo.

I haven't seen all of it, but it's an adaptation of the book so no singing. Also it's a lot more kid-friendly so some characters have been spared (sadly, they don't include gorgeous revolutionary man :( ). It's a bit too cutesy for my liking since it focuses a whole lot on Cosette as a child.

I dunno, Enjolras would probably have no prob seducing Marius if he put his mind to it. The book said something to that effect too (though in that context Victor Hugo was talking about women). Hell, the soldiers who executed him were reluctant to do it as first coz he was so pretty and charismatic.

Am now imagining the version where "Citizen, my mother is the republic" is Enjolras' idea of a pickup line. And it fails not because Marius is straight or because Enjolras' taste in pickup lines is utterly non-standard, but because Marius is a clueless doof who totally doesn't catch the fluttering eyelashes and seductively parted lips and oh-so-casual touch on the shoulder and the tricolor boxers artfully riding up on Enjolras' girlish hips.

It doesn't matter how pretty someone is if they aren't a compatible gender to your sexuality.

...I mean, that's probably not what you meant, but it really frustrated me when people are like "why did they go for [girl] when they could go for [guy] instead? He's so much more attractive!" Finding someone to be physical attraction doesn't mean you're automatically sexual attracted to them.

Yes, and when that someone is also a virginal ice prince with a noli me tangere attitude surrounding them like a force field, they might seem a lot less attractive even if they were a compatible gender to your sexuality. not that it seems to deter Grantaire
