(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)Otherwise eh, Bubbles and Blossom are okay but I don't know about buttercup. The biggest difference is the eyes and hair.
The thing about PPG is that the design sense was so unique I feel like it'd be hard to "modernize" while still keeping within the same design spectrum. You could try to do something completely different (like the PPG anime did) but then fans will be even more pissed.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)I think I know what the OP is talking about. I've seen this sort of style described in such a way before. I think it's basically because it looks like whoever designed them couldn't be bothered to draw actual circles or smooth lines. Rather, things are very pointy - even in places that don't need to be.
I don't like it either, to be honest.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-11 12:03 am (UTC)(link)Regardless it's a design choice, and it's not based upon artist skill but usually on how something is going to be animated and what the market they are aiming towards.
I wouldn't say I "love" these design choices but I wouldn't say they are the most horrible thing ever either, but like I said earlier I don't think the task of redesigning the powerpuff girls is easy. Their original design was *so* simple that it's hard to think of another way to simplify them, you'd actually need to make them more complex to make a design all that different.
