THIS. The only stuff that's dubbed in my native language is kids' shows. When people demand dubs of foreign media it just pings my "baby can't read quickly enough" alarm.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Firtly, I'm not sure what country you're from, but that is definitely not the purpose of english dubs in MINE. And second, way to be a huge prick. What about dyslexic people? Or the visually impaired?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
In one of those third world world shitholes the other anon is describing, they probably eat them.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh you're still here and you're still a scum of society.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry whatever backwards ethnic hellhole you are from doesn't have enough of a culture of its own then that you need to buy in all your shows.

RACIST

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean like Denmark?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That isn't a country, it is a giant sandbank populated by people too crap to be proper Germans.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
/b/ in that way ------->

(Anonymous) 2013-02-11 05:17 am (UTC)(link)

(Anonymous) 2013-02-11 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
stop replying to yourself, the fish don't bite at your desperate attempts today. Let it go.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
hello

I was not replying to myself

I am a new anon

but I guess it doesn't matter anymore

the thread is dead

bye!

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Denmark eh? Well something is certainly rotten there. I think it's your attitude in this thread.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-11 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
In a couple of decades Denmark won't exist any longer for us to care about. Its just sand that never rises more than a few feet above sea level. Climate change and rising ocean levels are gonna wipe it out.

My dad's a bit hard of hearing and so he just doesn't watch too many movies anymore because he can't hear them properly. So I suggested he turn on the subtitles, but they are too small for him to be able to read them fast enough to keep up.

He's very intelligent, not dyslexic, and can read (in a couple languages) very well. It's just that his eyesight is going a bit too. Well, fair enough, he's 83. But it's entirely possible for people to have difficulty with the subs without being semi-literate.

And, see, I generally prefer subs to dubs (some dubs lose a certain nuance of meaning in the translations, and sometimes I just prefer the original voices), but my mum preferred dubs because she generally found subs slightly distancing. Also she liked to knit while she watched a show, and with subtitles, she couldn't look down at her knitting without missing dialogue. Again, not a question of literacy; dubs just worked better for her.
