This is an odd position, OP. I rather wish you'd given us more to work with.

Personally, I know that I'm biased in favour of female characters in that I'm unfortunately more likely to sympathise or empathise with a female character than a male one. I'll go to greater lengths to cut them slack, or fanwank their inconsistencies, or subvert their stories.

But I can't quite wrap my head around blanket loving characters across the entire spectrum of everything. Female characters in old romances who are just ciphers or allegories? Female characters in genres you don't like? Female characters who are very obviously unrealistic wank-material for misogynistic authors? Female characters in fanfiction deliberately designed by an anti-shipper to torpedo your OTP? Agnes Wickfield?

Hm. I felt like if I elaborated too much it would take away the impact of the statement, and I was hoping to generate some discussion. There are characters who I don't like as much as others. Hell, there are thousands of stories that I haven't read and I'm sure a lot of them have female characters. There are male characters I love too. But I guess I just love that there are female characters and so much can be done with them and when I think about that it just makes me really happy.
