...I thought Hydra had been around in the comics for a long time?

Also, I always assumed he was, like, a super-nazi. He out-nazied the nazis. Didn't he turn his back on Hitler not because Hitler was an icky nazi but because he thought himself better that Hitler? And though he shared similar, if not the same, views on human perfection as Hitler he found Hitler wanting. He though Hitler was inferior and beneath him.

Or did I just pull all of that out of my ass?

That's exactly what I got out of the movie, so idk.

Yay similar interpretations. So I'm probably not pulling it all out of my ass. How lovely. (I'm being completely serious. I was worried I made an entire thing about the movie up.)

No I got that too, it's one of the reasons why I liked him tbh.

Yeah, that's why I liked him too. No one but him (And Steve) could live up to his standards but even then even the two of them didn't.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I got out of it. Red Skull saw himself as THE Ubermensch, and not subject to the will of any "normal" human; he thought that the distinction the Nazis were drawing between the races was minor and petty, because they were all lesser when compared to HIM.

Yeah, exactly. With that kind of mentality it seems perfectly normal for him to distance himself from nazis. He doesn't want to be associated with those lesser beings.
