because it's a disservice to the work as art. but hey, to each his own, it's not written anywhere that you're required to truly appreciate or respect anything. enjoy it for your own reasons, no matter how inane they are.

and besides, since i don't really watch anime anymore, i can't really comment on the artistic quality of current works, anyway.

although if you say that you watch dubs because reading subs is to difficult and/or annoying, i have to think that you're lacking some brain cells. because in my experience, reading subs doesn't detract from watching anything. it's all sort of on the same screen.

Wow. Way to sound like a defensive cockmunch. The work is no more "art" than My Little Pony. It's a cartoon drawn in a specific style. Whether the voices are in Japanese or English doesn't change that fact.

And having difficulty reading subs (for whatever reason) has nothing to do with a person's intelligence. That's a pretty fucking immature way of looking at it, anon.

lol did you seriously just say that anime isn't art, that it's just 'cartoon'? come on now, that argument happened years ago and your side lost epically. and i've never seen MLP so for all i know, it could be art.

disregarding the second comment entirely because you're clearly mentally inferior and ashamed of it. which, you know, you don't need to be. if you admit your shortage of working brain cells, i won't hold it against you.

haha wow. Troll.

Anime IS cartoon. what is this supposed to mean? Cartoons can be art, sure, but the voice acting is independent of the real artwork. Would you know that the original artists, the comic book artists that draw the stuff in the first place, don't get any say in what voice actors are cast?

My advice: grow up and learn how to argue your case without resorting to insulting the other side.

It just makes you look desperate and invalid.

By that standard it's a disservice to the art to consume it in anything other than Japanese. Subs, the irrelevant choice of someone who already knows Japanese or the tool of poseurs to make them feel better than the common consumer who just wants the story.

Either consume it in the original language without translation, which means thinking in Japanese while listening and watching, or accept the translation convention that keeps it closest to how it was intended to be consumed. The latter is of course, without texting the dialogue. Over Dubbing, more respectful than Subbing and appropriating another culture.

So.... subs are cultural appropriation now? The fuck?
