I agree, she's absolutely stunning. In the deleted song scene, "If I Never Knew You", the animator's did it at the end of production, so she's probably at her most beautiful in that scene, it's such a shame it was cut (well, for other reasons as well, it is a beautiful song).

She's gorgeous. Too many people forget about her, sigh.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
IA. She's gorgeous and awesome and manages to be independent while staying respectful of her family and cultural traditions. It's great.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Respecting cultural traditions when they're being oppressive is not a good trait.

She's always been my favorite. I'm actually singing Pocahontas songs with my voice teacher right now and it is such a nostalgic experience. I love that character.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
She's beautifully drawn, and I think a lot of it comes from the fact she is drawn WAY more realistically than normal huge Disney eyes. The animation on the movie itself is extremely fantastic. Also, OP this woman:

http://11.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ktewfyOarl1qzyw65o1_500.jpg

looks basically identical to Pocahontas. I loved her, but only up until she met John Smith. Then I feel she becomes a walking and talking encyclopedia for mystical Native stuff. All of the energy, spirit, joy, curiosity, etc just sort of disappears. I LOVE that she's the only Disney Princess that is shown to have an actual taste in guys. Merida and Belle both have more suitors, but you get the impression it's because they're just sort of gross guys in general, not because their personalities aren't her type.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I like that Merida had a shameless 'gaping at teh eye candy' moment. Yeah, girl, we all go there.

I've seen a picture of the VA who did Pocahontas - she's practically identical, which made me realise a lot of Disney cartoon characters are drawn to look (more or less) like their VAs. Even Genie looks like Robin Williams - an admittedly caricatured Robin Williams, but still.

Did you see her redesign?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Oh please let's not start redesign wank right now. Mulan got changed, I'm sure Pocahontas will.

I most definitely agree, Pocahontas is the most beautiful. Plus, Colours of the Wind is my favourite Disney song (you should hear Sara Ramirez's version, it's so stunning). And Meeko is my favourite animal companion.

Agh, say what you will about that movie and its problems, but she makes it all worthwhile.

Some of the most gorgeous animation in any film (ever) went into that movie. It's just so visually stunning.

I'd agree that she's definitely the most beautiful of the princesses, and I also think she has the best singing voice.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
She is pretty, and when I was in first grade this movie was my main squeeze. I was that little blonde girl dressing up as Pocahontas for Halloween, lol.

However, I watched it recently and now... I think her personality is way too Mary Sue-ish. I know, Disney characters, but she is falsely ~independent~ and ~mystical~ to the point of being obnoxious. Plenty of other Disney characters had flaws and more of a defined character, such as Jasmine or Mulan, hell, even Belle seems like more of a character than Pocahontas is.

As a kid, I was insanely jealous of her hair and wanted to dye it black and grow it out just so it could be like hers.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Her strangely angular face, and nonexistent waist sort of weirded me out.

You are not alone Anon! She is one of my all time favs, tying closely with Tiana in Princess and the Frog.

I think part of what really strikes me about Pocahantas is the animation style of the time, too- it gives her something etherial.

When the movie was released on blu-ray, I must have watched it every day for about a week after buying it. I'd forgotten how beautiful that movie is.

I always thought my big sister kind of looked like her, haha.

I agree with this. She's enthralling, and I say this as a Princess Aurora stan (just her character design).

THIS!!! Pocahontas was most definitely my favorite princess when I was a little girl, and is still one of my favorites. :-)
