First--Jasmine is talked about a lot and TONS of little boys thought she was hot. It helps that she is half naked through out her movie, and is actually naked at several points.

Second, she is the star of her movie. You see her all the time, and her opinions and personality drive the movie. Jasmine is seen through Aladdin's eyes, and it's Aladdin's movie.

Third, Jasmine kind of has a bizarre face. It's pretty, but look at those ENORMOUS cat eyes. Look at the heavy, heavy black eyeliner surrounding them. Her eyes take up half her face! I think it looks a lot more "cartoony" than Ariel. Of all the Disney Princesses, I think Ariel and Tiana have the most realistic, human-ish faces. Jasmine looks kind of like a caricature.

But I'll admit I liked Ariel best when she stopped talking. Mostly because I found her to be petulant and kind of brain dead when she opened her mouth. The excitement and personality she has when she's mute makes her endearing. The animator's did a fantastic job...but on the other hand, a lot of people don't like Jasmine because she's a lot more aggressive than Ariel. I don't think she's wrong to. She's only angry at people who treat her like an object rather than a person. But since the hero is Aladdin, people generally don't approve of other characters snapping at the hero.

I have to disagree about Ariel's face being more human-like. Her eyes look like they're popping out of their skull. They're definitely moe freakish looking.

Eh...I don't know how someone can honestly think most people think this:

http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/22300000/Ariel-Wallpaper-disney-princess-22331194-1011-1342.png

is less realistic than this:

Jasmine is pretty and all, but her face is a lot more abstract and cartoony than Ariel.

That's real funny considering Jasmine was the one based off an animator's actual sister.

Mark Henn's sister is white. So how strong do you think the resemblance is supposed to be?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
I saw the Making Of documentary, sweetheart. There was a picture. It's a pretty good resemblance.

idk why she reminds me of ariel

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
idk why either

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Your reasoning on her appearance is... weird at best?

Shit, son, this is the internet. People hit on *cats* here.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but most people don't. A small subset that the internet at large is fascinated by does. I think most people think Jasmine looks stranger than Ariel. She simply looks more like a caricature.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Both characters are cartoonish. It's just that one of them has huge, cartoonish eyes that are an exaggeration of more Caucasian features and the other has huge, cartoonish eyes that are an exaggeration of more Western Asiatic features.

And yes, I'm totally giving you the side-eye for finding one more "realistic" and "human-ish" and the other unreal and presumably less human.

I know you are, because it's really easy to snort and huff and scream racist. As I said above:

I don't know how someone can honestly think most people think this:

Jasmine is pretty and all, but her face is a lot more abstract and cartoony than Ariel.

Jasmine's face is simply cartoon pretty woman, and as I recall, she is NOT based on any real person, unlike Ariel, and I'm not sure if Jasmine had a actress motion reference as I know Ariel did. Her animation is simply more detailed, more refined and humanlike. Pocahontas has a far more realistic human face than Jasmine. Jasmine's face lacks definition or proportions.

Belle, Rapunzel, and Cinderella also looks similarly abstract, but I think no princess has ever had a more abstract cartoon face than Jasmine. Her eyes take up such a huge part of her face. This is not to say that Ariel is realistic, but rather, that Jasmine is very caricatured.

But oh my goooood raciiisssm. Be a bit more creative!

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Jasmine's face was based on that of an animator's sister. Motion capture has little to do with facial features so it doesn't matter if her motion had an actual actress behind it or not.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It has to do with the realism and believability of a character, which I also discussed.

I'll point out that Mark Henn's sister is white, so...it's funny you claimed I was racist.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Actually that was a DA, some of us forget to mark it sometimes. You were talking only about her face as a realistically human one, nothing about 'believability' and character, so nice try at goalpost moving but no dice.
