That and you try to hit on Jasmine, her father sics her tiger on you. I doubt think Flounder would able to put up much of a fight, to be honest.

They have similar bodies cause it's like, the only body type Disney could draw for a while there

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 12:21 am (UTC)(link)Second, she is the star of her movie. You see her all the time, and her opinions and personality drive the movie. Jasmine is seen through Aladdin's eyes, and it's Aladdin's movie.
Third, Jasmine kind of has a bizarre face. It's pretty, but look at those ENORMOUS cat eyes. Look at the heavy, heavy black eyeliner surrounding them. Her eyes take up half her face! I think it looks a lot more "cartoony" than Ariel. Of all the Disney Princesses, I think Ariel and Tiana have the most realistic, human-ish faces. Jasmine looks kind of like a caricature.
But I'll admit I liked Ariel best when she stopped talking. Mostly because I found her to be petulant and kind of brain dead when she opened her mouth. The excitement and personality she has when she's mute makes her endearing. The animator's did a fantastic job...but on the other hand, a lot of people don't like Jasmine because she's a lot more aggressive than Ariel. I don't think she's wrong to. She's only angry at people who treat her like an object rather than a person. But since the hero is Aladdin, people generally don't approve of other characters snapping at the hero.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-12 12:23 am (UTC)(link)Also, even if she doesn't speak for part of the movie, Ariel is hardly meek. She's also THE main character of her movie. Jasmine is at best the third most important character in hers, which make her stand out less.
Also: red hair.

Yeah, sure, maybe that is why some people like her more but for goodness sakes that's not why all men who happen to like her more actually like her more. If anything, the posters above have listed tons of reasons why people might like her more. Not all of them are good reasons, mind you, but really, think for a moment. Wouldn't it be better to get a person's reasons for liking her more first before assuming it's because of sexist reasons?
And I say this as someone whose favorite princess is Jasmine.

Ariel's more swoony and adoring.
Which one do you think guys prefer?
(But yeah Jasmine is a lot hotter. Honestly Ariel is cute, but as far as hotness goes she ranks pretty low on the Disney ladder.)

how did they expect to do that exactly?

"The men up there don't like a lot of blabber.
They think a girl who gossips is a bore.
Yes, on land it's much preferred for ladies not to say a word.
After all dear, what is idle prattle for?
Come on, they're not all that impressed with conversation.
Two gentleman avoid it when they can.
But they dote and swoon and fawn on a lady who's withdrawn.
It's she who holds her tongue who gets her man!"
