(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 01:34 am (UTC)(link)Personally, I'd love to see some fucked up story about a female serial killer murdering men who got away with horrific crimes and telling herself she's a hero when really she's basically just a sociopathic vigilante murderer.
Or some fantasy story about a black girl who has to reclaim her kingdom from an evil uncle.
Or some sci-fi about a trans man who witnesses the death of someone close to him and invents a time machine to save them.
The problem isn't that stories have conflict or are about morally grey characters, it's that far too few stories allow flawed main characters to be anything other than straight, white, cis and male.

But really, why should it be harder to write about a trans man than about, say, a cis man living in the 1950's? If you want to be a good writer, you need to learn about things. Authors research stuff all the time; I don't see why this should be so much more difficult.

That actually exists, it's a movie called Hard Candy. Saaadly, no SJW would object to it I think? Because there isn't much of a feminist spin on it. Maybe it's cause the MC is young, idk.
But check it out! It's a gorgeously shot, tense movie.
