Well you CAN but ga does not ... indicate an object, there is no object that wanted to be eaten by the subject marked by "ga" in that clause, which is cat, and the dog dislikes the whole (idea of the cat that wanted to eat) apparently ardfgnakgakhgkdfjghdf

I'm too lazy to find the Japanese characters, but isn't there a phrase with the "time" and 'no'. Like a subject. I'm probably out of practice, but maybe that's what it was. You may be right though because I was confused too. I only had Japanese I though my senior year...just because I had an open slot. It was either that or French, and since I was already taking Spanish, I would have butchered French. -yeah, offtopic, sorta-

-dies- yeah, 'ima no [noun]' is literally 'the [noun] of now'. In this case, I think it's just a dramatic way to say 'the way I am today' or 'my dog of today' only there's a dog involved and a cat eating so akljsfhsdklfg yeah, makes no sense

Not really grammatically correct but that should be what it means. 食べたかったが is correct phrasing; が means "but" in this context. I know you said "shouldn't it be ですが?" but this type of writing is also formal.

Yeah, it's supposed to be a formal sentence, all students have to write Japanese essays this way but the OP did some grammatical errors in the way that とっても should be とても and じゃない should be ではない.

... DO I MAKE SENSE? Sorry, my English is starting to not keep up with my Japanese anymore. -_-;;

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, okay. I kinda get what it's trying to say now. adfgnakhgdfk phrased kind of strangely but I guess it makes sense? As far as dogs wanting to eat cats... and also disliking it... makes sense? dfgadjfh

I hope the OP made up that sentence rather than taking from a textbook or the teacher, or I would start questioning her high school....

Lol, I felt the same way. I even typed it into Excite!'s translator to see if it came up with some off-the-wall grammatical structure that I didn't know about.

And if the dog wants to eat the cat, I'll assume it has never tasted it before, so how does it know if it likes it or not?! シーー(￣、￣*)ーーン



If anything, the only coherent sentence out of that would have to be: 俺の犬は猫を食べたが、嫌いだった。And even then, you change the original meaning. Aha~~....
