11. The reason there's never been a friending meme like that is because oh gee, most people use their journals for more things than to wank off about fandom 24/7. Sure I do know of a few people who either have seperate accounts to fangirl in, special filters in their personal journal, or they're just so paranoid about being stalked that they refuse to talk about anything that isn't fandom related, but that vast majority will mix it up, myself included. But I guess if you want a superficial connection with fandom, that's your own prerogative.
14. I don't think I ever watched Adult Swim for Home Movies (though that show did get better when they learned how to animate with STABLE LINES), but you're right some of the new cartoons on CN are really shitty, especially the Gym Partner's a Monkey show or Totally Spies, ugh. Nick actually does better cartoons now, El Tigre, Fairly Odd Parents, and Avatar to name a few. Though I still love CN for Foster's. :3
19. It's cause he's openly gay for Inu Yasha, duh.
I'M INFORMATIVE.
as for the whole mask thing, really it's just like you said, people REALLY want to look JUST like the character. That way, you don't HAVE to have the same face shape, hair color, or even the same gender! The body suit hightens the appearance of a smooth, cell shaded skin tone. Another part of the appeal is, you don't have to be shy cus no one knows who you are. You simply become the character.
A lot of people say "theyre prolly ugly!" which is understandable really, but come to think of it, isn't it the perfect solution to people not born with perfect aesthetics?
sorry for tl;dr
Re: I'M INFORMATIVE.
I think it was years ago, but I remember watching some online stream on cosplay and they interviewed a skinny Japanese guy who did this sort of thing (he dressed up as a girl). His body was better looking than mine, but he had one hell of a butterface. It totally makes sense why he would be into that type of cosplay (and is why I always wonder about butterfaces even today, haha). But I also think that's one of the cool things about it too- masked people are always so mysterious~
For me, it only starts to get a bit creepy when it's used for sexual purposes. DX
Re: I'M INFORMATIVE.
i agree @_@ luckily from what i've gathered, thats only a tiny tiiiny portion of the people who do it. for most people its just a hobby.
Re: I'M INFORMATIVE.
I doubt I'd ever do it myself, but I can at least understand some of the appeal now.
Re: I'M INFORMATIVE.
the motivation can depend on the person too. some people i know do it because they're into all sorts of costuming. Or some want to be a female character without being some kinda scary crossplay, or cus they think it's cute.
ive thought about doing it myself, but it's hecka expensive @_@ mask($200-$thousands) + costume($50-$who knows) + body suit(??)? yikes!
IM RAMBLING.
