What it looks like to a person who is not a Transformers fan: two incredibly messed up pines are fighting, and there's an odd seaweed hanging from one of them.

I've seen that movie and I still thought it was Ents til I saw 'Optimus'.

I'm a fan and it looks that way to me too.

I am a fan, and have seen 2/3 movies, and I'm still completely baffled as to what's going on.

Since it's in a forest, it can't be Give Me Your Face, so I am UTTERLY lost...

For me, it was "is this like the robotic version of street wrestling?"

But why, though? I'd understand you better if you referred to him giving Demolishor(?) a headshot in the first few minutes of the movie.

Optimus is fighting a war. This is what happens in war. Specifically robot war.

Optimus is killing evil so it's okay.

What's happening in this scene?

I don't remember exactly what he did here; I think he might've broken a few limbs on Megatron. He's also taking on Megatron plus lackeys at a three to one disadvantage with the added distraction in that Sam is at the scene, too.

The movies are pretty much nonstop character assassination. Avoid them and watch TFA for a while, you'll feel better.

I take it the OP didn't make it to the end of Dark of the Moon, then.

Theory: Bay likes to shove as much blasphemy down TF fans as he can get away with, and laughs his way to the bank.

OP, if I let Bay's Transformers movies ruin my love for the actual franchise, I'd hate Transformers altogether.

What is happening in this scene, who are those characters, and why does everybody think it's such a big deal?

It's Optimus and Megatron from one of Michael Bay's movies, and in the scene he's ruthlessly ripping Megatron apart.

The reason people hated it is because Optimus is known to be a strong, compassionate leader who is still capable of giving a smackdown. In these movies he was brutual, ruthless, and telling them to die. Even if a war setting, it was a bit much.

Kinda like if you saw a film where Batman was being really gentle in beating criminals up and apologising while he did so.

all i remember from this scene is that optimus kicked ass and took names in Sam's defense and it was beautiful and made me first cheer and then go 'NOOOOO OPTIMUS! :((("

but I never saw the cartoon and whatnot, so I love movie!optimus with no baggage. is he like a pacifist in the toon or something, 'cause i didn't see how his character was ever assassinated.

How peaceful Prime is varies depending on which continuity it is, but no, he's never a pacifist, he's always a warrior - it's just a matter of how disappointed he'll be when he has to fight.

Most wouldn't hesitate too much to offline Megatron, though.

Maybe I just am really good at separating my feelings for the different continuities in Transformers, but I never held it against all the Optimus Primes ever invented that movie!Optimus has to fight hard and brutal.

I never really held it against movie!Optimus that he had to fight hard a brutal. He's fighting a war and has been for millions of years. That's gotta affect a mech!

Also? Michael Bay. I don't expect really great characterisation from anything Bay puts out. Besides, he was always more interested in showing the human viewpoint in all this instead of doing any great service of characterisation for the Cybertronians (but like I said, I don't expect great characterisation from Bay, even for the human characters).

I wouldn't let the horrible movies affect your opinion of any character, OP. -_-
