What is happening in this scene, who are those characters, and why does everybody think it's such a big deal?

It's Optimus and Megatron from one of Michael Bay's movies, and in the scene he's ruthlessly ripping Megatron apart.

The reason people hated it is because Optimus is known to be a strong, compassionate leader who is still capable of giving a smackdown. In these movies he was brutual, ruthless, and telling them to die. Even if a war setting, it was a bit much.

Kinda like if you saw a film where Batman was being really gentle in beating criminals up and apologising while he did so.

A war that's been going hundreds of years and Megatron has proven he won't give up, ever. Honestly, I'd be more disturbed if he was STILL going gentle after that.
