Are you talking about the parenthesis wank? No, probably not. That was the author losing her shit over a comment she received, not an author's note. Now I am stumped.

nah, it was kudos wank.

some author on AO3 had a 'I really, really don't like kudos. I mean it. If you keep insisting on giving me kudos I'm going to delete it' note on their fic. (forgive me, I don't remember the exact wording)

It was linked and mocked on both FFA and Tumblr, and the fic ended up with 77 kudos on it before it was deleted. Some people also commented with just the word 'kudos'. A long debate about the mean-spiritedness of this dogpiling ensued.

That response is weird and weirdly obsessive, but at the same time, saying something like "I don't like kudos don't give me any" sounds really self-centered and ungrateful

idk, sounds like both sides were being dumb. But the dogpiling sounds way over the top for something like that.

Giving kudos out of spite is petty, but as far as I can tell, it wasn't an organized response, it was just, "Don't like kudos, eh? Have one anyway." For better or worse, "giving kudos" is just a click of a button, and you can do it anonymously, so it seems like a lot of people gave in to the impulse.

Couldn't you just ignore the kudos? Hell, why post on AO3 if you hate kudos? Isn't that what LJ is for? And half the time people don't bother to leave kudos for fics they like, why do it when someone specifically asks not to? Why would anyone think FFA was a nice place? Nothing in this secret makes sense to meeeeeeeeee.
