So I saw the first episode of Game of Thrones...

(Anonymous) 2013-02-16 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
A channel here is airing it from the beginning and I decided to give it a shot since it's everywhere and it seems like something I could get into. I liked it, but I didn't feel instantly hooked or anything, no urge to go and blow through the rest of the episodes in one sitting.
I'm just kind of curious if it's one of those kinds of things you have to give some time before you really get hooked on it? I have no issues if it is, I just thought some other opinions might give me an idea if it's going to be something I get really excited about or if it's just something I watch because it's on.

This was meant to go under the general comments and I don't think it did. My apologies. Is there anyway to move it or is my shame permanent?

Your shame will forever haunt you :3

To me, GoT picks up. By the end of season 1 I was completely hooked. I really think the best way to watch the show is by marathoning it. I wasn't feeling season 2 that much, but I marathoned the second half and by the end I was loving it all over again.

I-it is rather slow-paced. I do think the action it ramps up to is worth the build-up, but yeah, if you don't know how interesting it's going to get, the first few episodes feel a little exposition-y. On the other hand, if you try to watch it broken up, you might lose your place with the political intrigue, which is confusing enough if you're sitting through a marathon the first time xD;;

IDK what to tell you. I like the TV series, but it's definitely not for everyone.

I think it picks up the end of the season. Some scenes seemed to drag on longer than necessary, but overall it wasn't too bad.

Just curious, did the channel censor it?

Not to my knowledge, no. The swearing was left in and the nudity so I assume it was aired as it was originally intended. It airs later anyway (10 and then re-runs at 1:45 am) and the channel plays stuff that's a bit more ~adult anyway.

Ah, when it aired in HBO Asia they still censored it out to lulzy results.

I stuck with the show through most of the first season because I really wanted to like it, but it just never happened for me. I enjoy a slow build up but it didn't seem like it really was building up to anything by that point. If it was, it was far too slow for my tastes. I also didn't like most of the characters and knew beforehand that my favorite was going to die, so I didn't really see any point in watching anymore.

It does pick up. Easy for me to say since I had access to all the eps by the time I watched it, and I'd read the book already. The first few eps are pretty slow though.

well, i really liked the first episode and then by the end of the first season completely hated it and stopped watching it. so maybe it'll work the other way around for you?

Is the channel Showcase? They've been advertising that they're finally showing it there and I caught a bit of it last night in passing.
