I understand. It depends on the characters for me. Some characters I think would make an awesome battle couple or something so I don't mind reading about the relationship too.
But most often I just enjoy the anticipation. Unfortunately in fanfic I find things can get pretty OOC for some characters once they get established into a relationship. Though to be fair, there's a reason a lot of TV shows wait until the end to put the couple together... because they don't know how to write it and keep it interesting either.
