It's your body, you can do with it what you like and don't need to justify yourself for that. But if you're looking for an alternative (I don't know how much time and effort binding takes), have you tried sports bras? They support your breasts really well, are comfortable and don't make your breasts look bigger or pushed up or anything like that.

This. I had major problems wearing bras for years, because they felt wrong and uncomfortable, but I'm too big to comfortably go without. Sports bras proved a godsend.

I have gotten some shit for wearing them regularly, particularly in summer when I'm wearing tank tops and the straps are visible, because they're not exactly ladylike or delicate-looking, but screw that. The past few years are the first time I've been properly comfortable since I hit puberty.

Seconding this, all of this. I don't have a problem with the straps showing because in the clothes I wear, they don't. No chafing, no poking, no pulling, and everything stays put. Sports bras forever, man.

Do you get the 'compression' or 'encapsulation' sorts? Do you miss the underwire, or are they tight/firm enough that you don't? Most of the ones I see in department stores are just small/medium/large sizes, which doesn't work when your band and cup are disproportionate.

/30DD, best I can ever find are 36DD, which sometimes fit and sometimes don't, and I don't want to order online because sizing isn't standardized and whatever I ordered would be wrong.

My sympathies are with the OP, I'd bind mine into oblivion if I could...inasmuch as I can feel sympathy for someone who's an a-cup, hah.

seconding this!

trying "regular" bras is a gamble, but sports bras are a sure thing

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sport bras are lovely if you're small like OP. Even the expensive high-quality ones aren't going to do much for someone over a C.

nayrt

I've seen them at Walmart in DD...?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Just because they sell them doesn't mean they're any good!

I don't know about those in particular, but just because they fit doesn't mean they're effective. My problem has always been that if a bra is big and/or stretchy enough to pull on over my head, it's too big and/or too stretchy to provide good support, and only in the last year or two have I started to see sports bras that had hook-and-eye closures instead of just being pull-ons.

Really? My sports bra is like half a decade old and it's hook-and-eye, and I don't ever recall a lack of hook-and-eye sports bras. If anything, the idea of a "pull on" bra, sports or otherwise, is weird to me, I rarely ever see them. o.O

I wear the Londsdale brand and they go at least up till DD, maybe more. And they're not overly expensive at all.

Seriously, it's a brand thing more than anything. Sports bras for larger sizes do exist and don't suck!

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
But can you find them with big cups AND small bands? Loose bands mean you just fall out the bottom of the cups, too-small cups leave you bulging out around the sides. In either case, yuck.

I have G-cups and found a sports bra that works for me. Granted, it was over $40, but it's worth it, especially because I do sports and regular bras don't cut it at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
...what's your band size, because I wear a 28F and the one sports bra I was able to find in that size cost me 70$.

I wear 'em over my regular bra. Love it. F/G cup, for the record.

Good advice! I used to bind all through my teens, but I wear sports bra's now and I must say my level of comfort has gone up.I sometimes literally had chafing from binding after a long day.

[personal profile] atgdng 2013-02-18 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah I was coming here to say this. They're a nice alternative, and at least for me, waaaaay more comfortable than the other options.

Sports bras rock.

Sorry to bother you here but I saw you mention this soemwher else and have to ask, can you link me to that epic TEEN WORF BABBYPIG (STILES) Mpreg fic? It was like 36 chapters with a lot of angsts, at first he didn't know who the father was because he hadn't felt anything when HOEKITCHEN (DEREK) raped him from behind, he thought it was just a massage (lol), and the POTATO almost died becayse he didn't notice he was in labor int he wheel chair. He was also worried about getting fat and bloated with fat ankles and anorexic for a while I hope you didn't take it off line it was soooooo good!

Also seconding sports bras. They're one of the only bras I have that don't actively try to make your boobs look bigger (god I hate how hard it is to find a bra that fits without making you look bigger). If you'd go for them, I'd recommend ones that have mesh or otherwise are made up of "breathing" materials (or at least look for ones with the most amount of cotton in them), as these will be most comfortable for long term wear (a lot of sports bras are fantastic if you're only wearing them for a few hours but can get uncomfortable if you wear them all day).

(Anonymous) 2013-02-18 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
I have never ever been comfortable in a normal bra (and yeah, I've tried different sizes and brands). Switching to sports bras was the greatest decision I ever made.~ It makes shopping for nice work shirts kind of a pain, since I have to make sure I get ones with necklines that cover the straps, but it's a small trade-off for comfort.
