Oh get over yourself. Yeah, it doesn't work like that IRL. Surprise, these are games designed for giving people a fun and pleasurable escape from the humdrum of everyday life. There's plenty of fanfic in these fandoms centring on the NPCs; all it takes is clicking their names in the search function on ff.net or AO3 or Delicious. I've read and enjoyed heaps of fic that never featured the author's avatar.

At the end of the day, fandom is about fun and escapism. Some people are attached to their main chars and have a blast writing about them. Sometimes I'm in the mood for pure campy fun and wish fulfilment, and reading about people's different takes on their Shepards/Dovahkiins/Wardens can be fascinating. It gives a real insight into the person on the other side of the screen. Stop being such a thin-lipped sour-faced killjoy. God, I bet you wear a hairnet and breed budgerigars.

You're making too much sense.

But I guess some folks gotta whine about people having a fun time with a rpg game and writing about it.

I love my HoK/Nerevarine/Shepard/Revan/Dovakhiin/Exile/Warden/Hawke and anyone who doesn't like me writing about them can go step on a field of legos and chew some of them, too.

I genuinely love reading about people's HoKs/Nerevarines etc. I just find it so interesting, the reasons why people developed them a specific way, why they chose a particular race, the backstories they dream up for why their Dovahkiin was on the executiuon cart or the HoK in prison or the Nerevarine deported or whatever. I just love it. I adore the joy and care people take in their character creations. How could you not find that interesting? idk, maybe people interest me too much

They are interesting. Which is one of the many many many reasons TES is my favorite. And it's fun to rpg with other people's TES characters, to see how they view lore, or how they react to game events or what factions they favor and why.

There are so many paths to take, so many stories, so many possibilities, and so many variations of head!canon of what happen afterwards. And the care and love fellow fans take in creating their characters is awesome.

I think people who look down at this are losing out on something. Or just don't understand the kind of fun it is.

I agree so much. I don't read that much fic but I love seeing art of people's protagonists and the backstories they give them. It's kind of the same interest I have in original fiction mixed with the familiarity of a shared game experience. It's pretty great, even if it's hit or miss.

Seeing the art, or even screenshots of their characters are so much fun. and their backstories, yes.

I wouldn't have phrased it that harshly, but I agree with your sentiment. It's not like there's much realism in these games anyway, although I'm sure there's fic out there that caters to the OP's taste. (And hey, if not, why not write it yourself? Maybe you'll start a trend or please other fans with similar interests. *shrugs*)

But as a general rule, yes, people DO love their main characters and it shouldn't be surprising that they'll will write about what they like and know.

Yea, IDK...I just think it's nice that there's so many different Shepard's, Wardens and Hawke's (etc) in fandom, because if the 'default' ones don't do it for you, there's almost certainly to be one out there to your liking. There's so much variety so if one doesn't catch your interest, you can move on to the next. Plus, in just about every fandom I've been in there has been fic centered on side characters, too. (Maybe not as much, but that's to be expected.)

What you said about getting a bit of insight into other people is true too. I find it interesting.

And thanks! :)

Sorry to bother you here but I saw you mention this soemwher else and have to ask, can you link me to that epic TEEN WORF BABBYPIG (STILES) Mpreg fic? It was like 36 chapters with a lot of angsts, at first he didn't know who the father was because he hadn't felt anything when HOEKITCHEN (DEREK) raped him from behind, he thought it was just a massage (lol), and the POTATO almost died becayse he didn't notice he was in labor int he wheel chair. He was also worried about getting fat and bloated with fat ankles and anorexic for a while I hope you didn't take it off line it was soooooo good!

I agree for the most part, but I'm going to add a caveat that Shepard has a personality to start with. It's a bit more annoying when you have people kind of throwing away the personality Shepard starts with to insert whatever they want.

But I don't know why anyone would complain about Dovahkiin. They're every inch the self-insert escape fantasy people write them as. Who cares?

This is a stereotype I've never heard before. Elaborate?

I thought it hilarious myself.

Good way to describe the cranky get off my lawn type.
