Uh, could you explain what's so hilarious about it, OP? I guess I'm not cool enough to understand. I think that segment is rather heartwrenching.

It's an opening scene designed specifically to elicit an emotional response, like the opening sequence in Up. It's not unusual for it to make people cry.

[personal profile] ariakas 2013-02-20 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Girls! And their sissy emotions!

All the men crying at this scene were experiencing brave, forthright, manly emotions.

There's nothing funny about George Kirk dying to save not only many of his crew members, but also his wife and son.

When I first read this secret I thought you meant that only men are allowed to cry over this scene.

I'm sticking by this interpretation.

I didn't cry, but this was the one scene of that whole movie I had any kind of emotional engagement to. *shrugs*

I find it hilarious that you're such a douchebag.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
You know what, I did cry. You know why? Because it was a gut-wrenching scene, but it also had another layer for me. I'm a military brat. The concept of nobility like what George Kirk demonstrated? That hits me. I love that because it reminds me of my own father. Hell, I'm getting teary-eyed just thinking about it. I have a dad like that. Thank God he always came home, but I think of my mom, alone in a foreign country with two little kids without any idea where her husband was. I think about the women who end up widows and aren't as lucky as I was. Yeah. I'm going to cry. And I'm damn proud of it.

(And I'm pretty sure this is troll bait UGH but whatever).

Bring it in, anon

I sat down like a minute prior to this scene (as she was boarding the shuttle) and was already bawling. I don't get it? It was sad!

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
i was crying because my dad died a week before i saw it. it was painful. i'd probably cry anyway, even if he hadn't of died.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
tbh i didn't cry because i didn't know the characters at all, and i don't really cry at generic sad things, but i think that scene was *supposed* to make people cry.

but i also think you're trolling, so on you go.

This is an obvious troll but hey, you're good at what you do and I'm bored so I'll bite.

So if a dude cried it would be totally fine and legit right?

Also, I didn't cry at that scene. I cried a few seconds before when Papa Kirk exploded. However, I feel better now knowing Papa Kirk got reborn on Asgard as Thor.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-20 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Damn right I got teary eyed! You have fucking Thor, who made a baby, getting ready to say goodbye to his wife and that same baby he made, a big bad asshole all "OMG! U must dai!", and Thor's all "Yeah I do cause I can't have long hair in this movie", and then he gets to hear his baby he made cry and then he dies.

And the music! The glorious music during this entire sequence is just beautiful.

Sorry I'm not sorry for get the tears in my eyes.

George Kirk was a damn hero and that scene was beautifully shot and very moving. If it didn't do anything for you alright, but there's nothing 'funny' about it.
