2) Re: Argo. I feel like Girls was a really bad counterpoint to bring up. Say what you will about what Lena Dunham's actual goals are, but that show was marketed, and promoted by certain critics, as being widely representative of a general generation. Of course it attracted more criticism than a random Hollywood film that was marketed as basically a classy action/thriller flick.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 04:48 am (UTC)(link)And to be honest, that show catching hella flack for this before its first season was even finished when shows like How I Met Your Mother (which is also about young New Yorkers) gets through 8 seasons without a word on the subject, is some bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 06:25 am (UTC)(link)It doesn't sit well with me....I think in a way, it contributes to the type of racefail we see in some movies, and media.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 09:04 am (UTC)(link)Although on a TV show, you'd think there was enough budget to get a cultural consultant. Businesses hire them when they try to make deals with foreign companies, right? Of course this doesn't guarantee a universal correctness, but displaying an actual experience (as lived by the consultant) should be better than skipping or guessing.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)That's what scares me the most, we don't need to resort to that, we shouldn't.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-21 06:28 am (UTC)(link)If they write a diverse cast....then they are still raciest scum who got it all wrong, even if they do research.
I don't like where this is heading.
