Homemade deliciousness

Tonight I made from-scratch chicken strips and mashed potatoes with brown gravy (and heated up some frozen corn). I've made better mashed potatoes and gravy in my lifetime, but the chicken, which I've only made maybe twice in the past 10 years was fantastic, and overall the meal rivaled its KFC equivalent at a fraction of the cost. And it only took a little longer than it would have taken to drive out, order and get back.

Do you guys have any homemade recipes that like you better than takeout counterparts?

Congrats on the home-cooked meal! :) I do pizza at home a lot. There's an extremely popular no-knead bread recipe that also makes fantastic pizza crust (slightly chewy, good flavor) so I can put it together the night before and let it sit until I'm ready to start the next day. Roll it out, pre-bake about 5 minutes at 400 F, then spread on your favorite pizza sauce (frankly, I just use Hunt's spaghetti sauce), extra herbs if you want it, and whatever toppings you like. 7-19 minutes in the oven or until the cheese is nice and melted.

Mm, pizza! Care to share the bread recipe you use? It's always the crust I'm unhappy with whenever I make pizza...

Sure thing. It's this one: http://www.frugallivingnw.com/frugal-homemaking/amazing-no-knead-bread-step-by-step-recipe/

She's doubled the amounts of the original recipe, so you can easily cut it in half. Instead of shaping the dough into a round, you just roll it out like pizza crust. It's a very sticky, soft dough, so you'll need extra flour. Half of that recipe is enough to make a thin-crust pizza the size of a standard cookie sheet.

The original recipe and method makes great bread, too. :)
