I don't understand how you don't understand this. Maybe someone sucks at video games? Maybe they want to be in the fandom of a video games that's outside their genre (say, horror or fps or something). if they watch the LP and the person playing goes through the whole storyline, I don't see why the person watching shouldn't be in the fandom if they enjoyed the LP!

I mean, they certainly shouldn't be calling themselves gamers, but writing fic or drawing art or squeeing over characters or ships? Yeah, I don't see the problem.

Yeah, I think it's fine to say your in the fandom if you've seen the source material. It's best if you play it, but that's the gamer in me. I'm only going to say people who saw none of it are the ones who aren't true fans.
