Re: Things You Have Trouble Accepting As Canon

How the fuck was the mysterious Time Lord woman in the Doctor Who episode "The End of Time" not Susan?

I mean, come ON, there was that scene where Wilf asks the Doctor "That woman, who was she?" and the Doctor gives Wilf a look, and then meaningfully looks right over to Donna - y'know, Wilf's granddaughter - with the camera even following his gaze over to Donna as well, and then he looks meaningfully back at Wilf again without giving any more of an answer. I thought the only way the scene could be more explicit about its meaning is if it had the Doctor literally say "she was my granddaughter" out loud, but no according to RTD it was the Doctor's mother. Wat.

I had never thought about Susan! I was mostly just wondering vaguely if she was supposed to be Romana. I guess I wasn't sure if Susan could regenerate (Carole Ann Ford is still alive, AFAIK) but post-"Let's Kill Hitler" it doesn't seem that regeneration is a very unique ability and one isn't even required to be Gallifreyan, let alone a full-on Time Lord (assuming there's a difference).

according to RTD it was the Doctor's mother

I'd never heard this (not that I was paying attention). That's kind of... pointless? Meaningless? Fans speculate about the Doctor's parents, but we've never met them and don't know much about them or what happened to them, so naturally we're going to care more about people like Susan and Romana unless we're A) told that was his mom, and B) given a reason to care.

Well, think about it like this: if it's not Susan, than Susan can still appear anywhere else!

Well, it didn't make it into the actual episode, so it's really just RTD's headcanon. Accepting that headcanon is optional. (I think your interpretation is much better.)
