It has been so long since the end of season 3, I can't remember: did Troy and Britta get together then? Because it seemed completely out of the blue to me when S4 started. Maybe my memory just sucks?

No, they didn't. They were sort of flirting towards the end of it and there was a whole thing where that episode with Blade the ~evil~ boyfriend from Britta's past came along and Troy was the ~nice guy~ who would save her from herself (even though Troy is mean to her? STUFF MAKES NO SENSE) and then in the First Chang Dynasty she gave him a lock of her hair and kissed his cheek and then she greeted him with a hug when he came back from AC repair school so = love? They also flirted or something sometimes during season 3 I guess.

It was implied that they started dating in the interim between seasons 3 and 4. Jeff points it out in History 101 saying that "that's progressed."

Mostly though Troy and Britta came out of nowhere and have foundations of nothing. TPTB just want Troy to fuck a lady and since Britta no longer has a love interest I guess she needs one, and Jeff is gonna be with Annie or something so. . .Troy? I don't get it, but whatever.
