Re: Confession thread
On a somewhat related note, I cried yesterday because of the song 'The Prophet's Hands'.
Re: Confession thread
And don't worry, I once cried to Mahir Zain's "Palestine Will Be Free"
Re: Confession thread
And possibly explain what an azan is? *super curious now that I live between 4 different mosques*
Re: Confession thread
The Prophet's Hands. Childhood song, but listening to it as an adult, it takes on a fresh meaning. Some days, I look around me and wish that I could give it all up to go climb into the past and live with the Prophet (and that's a quote from another song!). It would be such an honour for me to have ever personally known a man like that.
Re: Confession thread
Thanks so much for sharing!
I hear those! They sound so pretty. Do they have special ones on certain days? Sometimes I think they're saying something different, but I'm always asleep in the mornings, so it's not that.
Re: Confession thread
Oh, you're probably hearing Quran recitation! Some mosques will have public Quran recitations a few minutes before azan, to get you in the mood to pray. Or it might be the khutbah. On Fridays, it's compulsory for Muslim men to go to the mosque and pray Friday prayer instead of Zuhr prayer, where a man is assigned the role of 'khatib' and gives the khutbah, which is a sermon. Usually, it's given first in Arabic, and then in the local language. I think it's the equivalent of a Sunday sermon in church. Fridays are considered the best day of the week, and before translating the sermon into the local language, the khatib will sit down, and any good prayers you make in that time will be granted to you.
