Except we're not talking about a particular game FFS. The anon didn't bring it up, I didn't bring it up, the discussion here is in general terms.

Here, let me spell it out:

"Consoles and the games themselves can be prohibitively expensive for a lot of people"

Completely ignores the existence of a whole 'nother platform called the PC. That's the ONLY thing I was responding to. It's like I said to another anon -- if you don't have access, you don't have access and I'm not including people without access in this discussion because the discussion is about what you can do if you DO have access. Having access or not is a completely different topic.

Assumes that leisure time is a non-zero-sum game. If a person doesn't want to spend their free time playing video games, that's their choice, but that doesn't mean free time magically vanishes if they don't do this activity or that activity. If you choose to spend your free time reading a book or arguing with dethtoll on the internet, don't go crying that you don't have time to play a video game. You could've done that instead!

I cannot play a video game on the subway.

I spend TWO HOURS A DAY on the subway.

I get a lot of reading done, but I can't get a lot of video gaming done.

I think their point is that it's pretty easy to tuck the book you've been reading into your backpack or purse to continue reading on the train on your way to work, or a smartphone to catch up on TV shows, but you can't do the same thing with the PS3 game you've been playing.

Because hey -- you can play video games on your phone and shit. I had a 5 hour bus commute every fucking day for two years. I also had a Gameboy. I may be splitting hairs a bit, but what I said is technically true.

to be fair there are tons of games you can tuck away just as easily - if not more so - than a book. i don't particularly agree with the arguments being put on the table here but games are a lot more accessible than they used to be.

But can you play any and every game on a PC? I think that's what people are trying to get at.

Not to mention computers don't always have the juice to handle gaming. I've got several made-for-PC games that my 3-year-old laptop practically faints at the sight of.

My SNES doesn't play Mario 64. The PC I had 8 years ago won't play Dishonored.

And for the record I had to wait 5 years until I could afford a PS3 just to play MGS4. Sure, would I have liked MGS4 to come out on PC, or 360? Sure. But it didn't. You didn't see me getting raw about it.
