I'm the same, don't worry. Now that there are wikias and internet is usually fast everywhere, there are no excuses. I just can't take seriously a character study fic (my favourite genre) when the author shows off his ignorance with blatant misspellings of names.
Also, I hate when the fanon name/nickname pretend to be the OFFICIAL name/nickname. Like with Castiel. No, guise, it's not CAS, it's CASS. I don't care if you think it's not cute or what else, it is canon and I don't want to be harrassed because I write CASS and not your petname of choice. The first time I watched Supernatural was with subs, thanks to me being AWFUL in english, so I'm used to that spelling. Just, let me be. I don't rain on your parade and I actually read fandom's fanfictions, in wich the ONLY spelling is CAS.

My issue with that one isn't that it's "not cute" (do people actually say that?), it's because it's illogical. You wouldn't nickname a character named Megan "Megg", you'd call her "Meg". You wouldn't call someone named Christopher "Chriss" or Katherine "Kaththy". It just doesn't make any fucking sense!

But the name Castiel is NOT english so it has not to do sense in english. For me, italian, it makes total sense (and it explay with CAS is not pronounced CAS like Castiel withous tiel but more like KESS). I think it's more harmonic, and, well, it's from CASSiel, so there the "joke" with that.
Not sure i'm making sense, tho. Here it's 6AM and I'm rather sleepy.
