I seriously don't think that's going to stop a dedicated troll. Someone who has dedicated their time to being a dick isn't going to stop just because someone tells them to do so. It's the internet. They can delete the message, scroll past the thread, etc.

That's not about stopping a troll. It's about saying that as a part of the fandom, you don't like to share space with shit behavior, and you are willing to call it when you see it. It's also about letting the person being attacked know that you're not complicit in what's happening to them or accepting of it. It's the difference between being the internet equivalent of someone who aids and abets bullies by standing by quietly and watching them harass, and being someone who gives a tangible fuck about the person they're hurting.
