really stressing out :(

(Anonymous) 2013-02-24 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
many months ago I posted on here (anon) that I had reported the lead teacher in my preschool classroom for shaking the children, and I was worried that I might see her again. Everyone here was really supportive, thank you! She got fired and everything seemed to be fine for a while.

Until now... it seems as though she's talked a bunch of other teachers and some parents into believing that she didn't really do anything and that the new lead teacher in my classroom made up those stories and coerced me into lying for her, so that she could get the job and the other woman would get fired.

There's such an uproar now that the new lead teacher, the director, and myself will probably be fired :\ I feel sick to my stomach. I love my job, and I don't want to lose it. Especially when I did the RIGHT thing. I know I did. But no one wants to listen to the real story. It's just backstabbing and lies and it makes me sick.

I remember you! This is so awful, I am so sorry that this is all going wrong. Could you, the director, and the new lead teacher maybe have a meeting with the others to explain your side of the story and that you were in no way coerced? Maybe you can get them to understand that this woman is not a good person and should not be around kids.

So sorry you're going through this stressful time, stay strong!

You did the right thing. If you get fired for it, so be it. I'm sure someone, like you, who really cares about kids will be able to find another job that doesn't have such a toxic environment. In the mean time, take a walk, watch some funny videos, or whatever you do to de-stress. Maybe apply for some jobs as backup if you're really concerned about being fired. I know it's hard to get something like that on your mind, but knowing you've done everything right is soooo much better than knowing you did nothing at all.

SA

The anon above me has some great advice, so please try that before and if you go with mine.

As a former preschool teacher, you never ever harm you students. You did the right thing. I agree with the above anon, a meeting is in order to get this sorted out. If you do get fired (knocks on wood), you don't wanna be working with those people anyway.

You have a few options, depending on where you are in the world, and/or what legislation your school falls under:

1. If no one in the school / at the school believes you, it's time to go to the School Board.

2. If the people on the Board are the ones who are railroading you, AND you are in a collective bargaining position (which you may or may not be, I didn't see the original thread, sorry), then it's time to talk to your shop steward / union leader. (Go to the union leader if the shop steward is also one of the ones railroading you.)

3. If you are NOT in a collective bargaining position (if you don't know what that is, you aren't), and you can't get anyone on the Board onside with you, then it's time to go to the Ministry of Education.

This all assumes your school is located in an area with both accreditation and/or state-sponsored education. If you're not, I'm not sure what else to tell you, tbqh.

sa I just reread and saw that you're worried about being fired --- I can't emphasize this enough, that if you are in a collective bargaining position (if you pay union dues), you absolutely have recourse to not losing your job over this unfair situation. Experiences like yours may not excuse all the problems inherent with collective bargaining, but the reason it exists is precisely for situations like the one you've outlined.

Talk to your shop steward, OP. If you can't get satisfaction from him/her, go directly to the union and open a grievance. They have to hear you, this is what the union dues they ding you for out of every pay goes towards supporting.

TALK TO THE UNION.

Out of curiosity, what happens if the abusive teacher has already talked to the union?

op here. I am not a member of a union :\ I don't know if there even is one for us actually? Unions don't seem to be common in Texas...

Texas is an at-will state, so unions are very, very uncommon here. I've heard of them, it's just not very often.

All of this is excellent advice.

Keep going up, as high as you have to go, to get justice. Especially for the kids who have to deal with that horrible person.

And holy shit, OP, I am so sorry you're having to deal with this. That woman sounds like a psycho, she should never be allowed to teach ever again.

I remember that post, good anon.

Best of luck that your 'side' comes through and people realise that bad~teacher is abusive and manipulative. Other anons seem to have good advice going on

:( *hugs!*

the other anons already gave good advice, so all that is left is some hardcore

*hugs*

you did the right thing, anon, and you are a good person

Document everything you can. Keep going higher until someone listens. Keep fighting and finding allies.

This is really shitty, but you are in the right here. *hugs*
