I can see that. I see a lot of people attack users because of things they have come to expect or believe of them, and often stop addressing what they've said, but rather what they think of the person.

But, still, it has it's pros and cons.

Nah, then it would be anons saying to other anons, "I bet you're white, cis, straight, rich, American, fill in the blank with whatever" whenever they disagree with someone's point of view. It would all boil down to this every time.

i disagree. i have seen intelligent anon discussions here. i've also seen completely vitriolic crap spat back and forth between non-anons. what it boils down to is that it's going to be the same group of people regardless. no more messy, no less messy.

In my experience at least anon-memes are suuuuper inane, trolly, and mean. Can be entertaining sometimes, but I really don't want to bring that into f!s.

That's fine, but I think you have to acknowledge that as an essentially personal preference - it would be more satisfying for you, but it wouldn't be intrinsically better. And I think you also have to acknowledge that, you know, f!s isn't and has never tried to be that.

I'm a big proponent of 4chan for this reason... but names have their uses. Pm's and favoriting for one.

The op of this subthread talked about wanting ideas to float around free and disconnected from specific voices, which is at best a nice lie because all ideas have sources and those sources must be thought about.

You said nothing about politeness but I am allowed to point at the largest mostly anonymous community on the internet to contextualize my thought process.

Also I literally make my living telling well meaning undergrads that they aren't thinking as deeply as they think they are and how they are looking at things outside their context, a practice with which I am sure you are quite familiar considering you thought that thing about my pseudonym was a sick burn.

i'm sorry but i disagree. i'm afraid that i'm unwilling to get into it because it is an utterly long argument. i've had the most dismal experience of going through the process before, and have no wish to repeat it.

i'm so glad you felt the need to hint at your credentials. truly, i do understand now why you are against the proposal. unwise in your case, as it must be said, but understood at any rate.

Places like 4chan and anon memes are full of trolling and general douchebaggery, but damned if I wouldn't find you a lot less aggravating if your comments were part of the general trollish masses rather than attributed.

I'd be a hell of a lot harder for you to follow around, that's for sure.
