Fix a crappy finale!

(Anonymous) 2013-03-02 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You know how you love a show, but it had that season (or series) finale that was a big letdown? Tell us how you would fix it!

Oh, and ginainthekingsroad, you may link to a previous comment of yours fixing the DS9 finale if you've already done this ;)

Roseanne - I didn't hate the series finale because it did fix all the shit that had gone wrong in the past season, but I mainly wish she had never done all that stuff so she didn't have to erase it in the first place. Plus screwing with the canon just makes it confusing, Darlene and Mark, Becky and David? Dan is dead? No thank you. I still to this day never watch the later episodes of Roseanne.

So basically I'd have them never win the lottery, Dan never cheats, and the canon stays in tact in the final episode.

Ugh same, I prefer to pretend that last episode just doesn't exist.

Blood Ties (the 2006 series)

How the heck could anyone leave it at that and just never make another season? Henry leaving, Victoria heartbroken and the threat of Asteroth still looming over their heads?

No. Just no.

To this day I'm still hoping that another wild season will come out of nowhere and wrap things up properly. *sigh*

Voyager.

Get them back home in the 'present' earlier in the episode, and give us proper pay off for how that goes down.

The L Word

I don't know if that actually can be fixed. But at the very least reveal who killed Jenny.

Seriously. The finale of the L Word... I mean, was that even an ending? Ugh.

The end of the ninth Doctor's only season really disappointed me but idk how I would fix is except...make him not die so soon? I was mainly just upset that it got cut off so soon.

Oh, and that Rose doesn't remember their kiss. I would cause her to have some memory of that. But I think it was intentional ship-teasing, so...

DINOSAURS

What in the actual fuck was the end of that show.

I just remember my kid self watching that episode and being like, "WHYYYYY???" Like I kept saying to myself that yeah, dinosaurs are dead but why would you end a show that way.

To it's credit it's probably one of the most memorable series finales from my childhood, I just don't know if it's memorable for the good reasons.

I don't know quite how to fix it, but I kind of hate the ending of Vision of Escaflowne - I think Hitomi learns exactly the wrong lesson at the end. (That they completely write out the possibility of the happy-triad or happy-quad ending bugs me, too, but I didn't really expect them to go that way.)

Doctor Who: The end of Donna's story arc, heck, with the exception of the water-monster episode just about everything about the conclusion of that season was an incomprehensible pile of shit.

Re: Fix a crappy finale!

What would you do instead?

*genuinely curious*

I mean, I'd want to have the Doctor and Donna have a big win in the finale and become happy and fix each other's issues with the power of bffness.

But then there'd be the question of "but then why would Donna ever leave ever" And "but then Eleven would be too normal and boring and angstless when Ten regenerated"

Maybe she would die in an awesome heroic sacrifice or something and drive Ten insane with grief? Because that's what RTD foreshadowed all season and then totally chickened out on because he's a manipulative coward who refuses to challenge the audience's expectations. IDK. It seemed like he wrote himself into a corner with that arc.

I'm not certain how I'd work with Donna differently. But for the rest of those episodes:

1: Dump the dead weight of the family reunion plot to focus on Donna.

2: Keeping Rose in the wings for two whole seasons was not the best idea.

3: The whole gothic return of The Master was an episode of badly-paced gibberish. The pacing and beats just don't work. Either explore it or just have him pop out of a portal or a basement laboratory.

4: The conclusion of that two-parter was dead-weight montage. In fact, it's a perfect encapsulation of everything that went wrong with the series and why we needed a new Doctor. It became more important to cram fanservice into the cracks than to work with the wonderful chemistry of the current companion (in this case Wilfred). If you MUST have a closure montage, put it in Wilfred's hands to say that The Doctor has moved on.
