Doesn't add value for the core demo, but does complicate the user experience and create extra work.

Or something like that. Was probably the rationale they used. If they even considered it.

But a huge emphasis on the muti-player user experience is the customisation options that are present.

Just look at the attention played to perks, weapons, and the development of the emblem system.

Eh. I'm not saying it was a good decision, I'm just saying that's probably the rationale. And in response to your point, they'd probably says the demo cares a lot more about customizing weapons and gameplay and shit than about customizing how they look. That reasoning is obviously somewhat specious, but I think it does have at least a certain logic to it from a profit and loss standpoint.
