Re: Characters you like *because* of their flaws

First character who came to mind was Ashe from FFXII. I like that she's sort of a 'haughty princess' type but in a thoughtful, complex way that isn't an insulting cliche. She's patronizing and unpleasant to people she considers beneath her, but not in an over the top manner. She's not exactly a natural born leader, but she thinks she is and has a hard time accepting people's valid criticisms of her weaknesses. And she never really becomes a warm, approachable character, even though she's learned and grown as a leader throughout the game--there's still a cool, vaguely unpleasant aloofness to her that I'm glad she keeps.

I liked Vanille in FFXIII because she was so conflict adverse she ended up worsening her already awful situation. I like that she's forced to confront her lies multiple times; that she eventually overcomes her most serious flaw, but it's really hard and she slides back into old habits before finally having her big heroic sacrifice moment. I know a lot of people dislike FFXIII and Vanille in particular, and I understand why, but her storyline really affected me.

In the obscure fandom department, nearly all of the morally grey-to-outright-evil characters in Soul Calibur. Raphael, Ivy, Zalsasamel, Siegfried/Nightmare before his redemption storyline...I guess I really like characters who have questionable grips on sanity.

Also, pretty much everyone in the Borderlands universe is outrageously terrible in the most entertaining way possible.
