I am not going to argue with you on your opinion, but not all the women in anime/manga are damsels "I need a man to save me" in distress, and the genre is getting better, just as media is (yes there are still ups and downs, but I think now more than ever, we are getting to the point of having interesting women in fandom).

No one cares if you don't read or write het, but I hate this sort of constant comment from slash only fen that there are no "strong" women, and that all female characters are a feminists worst nightmare.

I don't think a female should have to fit the 'feminist' ideal of what women should be to be interesting or strong, and I say this as a loud and proud feminist.

Also, I don't know if I was clear in my comment, but the first line of the comment is totally along the lines of "Well there is no strong women to you, but not me or others that I know" sort of thing.

My problem with the 'feminist' ideal is that it tends to be "being treated like a man." If success is still measured in terms of mnasculine success, it isn't really being a feminist, is it?
Meh. Either way, I don't see why fandom thinks that hating everything with boobies makes them a better person.

Oh, I totally agree, but that is what a lot fandom seems to think a woman should be. A woman can't be strong unless she acts like how we think men should act.

And to be honest, I always put that in quotes, because I don't think that is really very feminist at all.

I agree completely with [livejournal.com profile] escalove! I think that there are a lot of anime and manga out there that have strong and interesting female characters, and that female anime characters shouldn't be judged by doinky examples.

For instance, the character in my icon is Shuurei from Saiunkoku Monogatari. Though she isn't the most physically-strong character, she is smart, kind, and determined to fulfill her dream of becoming the first female politician in Saiunkoku, even though she has to overcome many obstacles to do so. I find her to be a strong female lead.

For that matter, I agree with those people who wonder why some BL/slash fans hate female characters for "all being wimps" when many BL uke characters have many characteristics that, if they were female, would have them labeled "wimps" in a second by many of these fans. It feels like a double standard.
