My biggest problems with it are that a) it thinks it's more important than it is and b) nobody thinks things through or plays to the largest base.

For example: It looks like Natasha Romanoff is winning the character nomination for the Avengers, and this will ultimately lead to The Avengers dropping out of the running early on because her fanbase isn't large enough. They would have had better luck with Tony Stark or Loki, because they have more fans who are more likely to campaign. This is something that seems pretty obvious to me, so it annoys me when people don't make choices based on their better chance of winning. :/

I don't know, most people who participate seem to be aware that it's ridiculous. The creator mod certainly didn't take it all that seriously, and the new mods seem to be doing okay so far.

It's funny that you think that Natasha is going to drop out soon, because I actually see her winning her bracket and making it to the semi finals. Pretty sure that Tony and Loki wouldn't have made it far due to people voting their opponents out of spite.

Natasha will make it at least as far as the semi finals, before smaller-fandom voters gang up to vote against her.

I just wish March Madness really was votes for favorite characters, instead of being "let me tell you how awesome female characters are, then I'll go back to writing/shipping nothing but white m/m fanfiction."

Yeah, I don't know why I was surprised to see that this year was an ovary fest. Using FSCMM to pretend like it says something about their ~awesome views on women~ is the only possible excuse I can find for some of these bracket choices.

Seriously, does anybody give a fuck about Molly Hooper outside of this game?

na

from what I've seen, she's always been one of those characters that a lot of people say they love but they never barely ever write fic and whatever for

Preeeeetty sure that the Molly Hooper stans are all just the John haters from last year. Kind of hope she'll lose in the first round, not gonna lie.

I have her winning one and then getting her ass kicked by Parker, but only cause she's up against Luther and I don't think that following will be big enough to override sherlock.

I'm on the fence. Alice had over 600 votes in the prelims to Molly's 300, though of course the Sherlock poll had much more participants. But otoh, will the Sherlock voters really rally behind Molly? I can see a lot of them voting against her out of spite. (At least, that seems like something the Sherlock fandom in general would do, leaving Molly hanging.)

...Is it now impossible to like both John and Molly? If so, why?

I only occasionally dip into the Sherlock fandom, so I wouldn't know this. Guess I'm doing it wrong.

Well, no, obviously not. But last year their was a serious anti-John campaign going on, and to be brutally honest, from what I've seen of Sherlock Molly just isn't all that interesting (she's nice, I liked her, but if you compare her to most other nominees?) The Molly stanning seems to me more a result of what went down last year rather than a genuine believe and love for Molly for her own sake.

My comment about whether the Sherlock fandom would rally behind her was about how the fandom seems to be all about John and Sherlock, with the rest of the male cast taking second place and the women in the show being mostly ignored or hated (see Sally, though I think that given her attitude she'd actually have a better chance at winning than Molly, but that's just my opinion.)

But then, I'm not in the fandom so who knows, maybe Molly is actually the queen of fandom and everybody's darling.

Looks like you were right, she is getting her ass kicked right now.

It really please me that so many ladies do well because I generally DO prefer female characters, but yeah I do think there are a lot of people who kind of do it to... prove their lady love. Let's be real, how many people in fandom just go on and on about how much they love female characters but when it comes to what they actually pay attention to in fandom? It's all white dude slash. It's really depressing.

I actually have Nat going to the Final 4. I'm guessing she'll at least hit the Elite 8.

Tony wouldn't of made it because there are so many anti iron man people and ugh it would of just been a horror show in comments. Though I do think he's a much better character then Natasha, but we also haven't seen that much of her in comparison to other avengers.

It's just cause she's the strong female and March Madness seems to usually be about the Strong female characters.

Not true. First off Loki got barely any votes (under 100 for sure), and the bias AGAINST him because of Loki fangirls would have gotten him knocked out pretty early. Tony is quite popular and there isn't a lot of 'backlash' against him, and even he did get knocked out pretty early last year.

Secondly, FMM is pretty biased toward female characters. I think Natasha will actually make it quite far in the race.
